The Owen Sound Camera Club is a group of diverse, like-minded photography enthusiasts who all share a passion for photography. Members from a variety of demographics join this club to learn what they don’t know, and to teach what they do.
Beginning in 1956, the club is the longest running photography club north of the Greater Toronto Area. It could be said that the reason for the club’s longevity is credited to the fact that Owen Sound is in the heart of such a diverse landscape, which provides opportunities for many types of photography. Within a few short hours of the city, you have the ability to capture urban life, country living, wildlife that is local to this region, big city life, rocky shorelines, serene meadows, many types of architecture, and the list goes on.
The club operates on a budget acquired by membership fees which are $35 per person, per season. Non-members are welcome to attend the meetings where we ask for a $5 donation. We meet the first Tuesday of the month (unless otherwise noted on the Calendar page) from September to June at the New Life Centre, 199 4th Avenue West, Owen Sound.
NEW STUDENT RATES! If you are a student at the secondary school level or younger, the membership fee is $10, but if you are taking any kind of photography course during the school year, your fee will be waived for the year.
As a member of the Owen Sound Camera Club you will have the privilege of being able to enter any of the Assignments and events that we may venture into. Over the course of our schedule, we have a different theme for each month where we will shoot something that pertains to that theme and submit two images to the club email account. At the next scheduled meeting the images are presented through a projector and the photographer may say a few words about each of their photos.
Whenever we can, we like to organize field trips where we get together in a workshop type of setting and learn from each other while doing what we like to do most – take pictures. As a paid member, you will be included in a phone or email list and be informed of such activities.
As a member of the OSCC you can have some of your work displayed on your own page in our Gallery section. Currently the limit for images per page is set at twelve, and if you have your own personal web site, we’ll be glad to put a link to it from our Links page.
During our meetings there may be issues that require a vote. Although we have a number of guests and visitors at our meetings, voting can only be done by our paid members. In May or June we may have a special gathering for the membership where we partake in a photographic activity, such as a scavenger hunt, then a barbecue.
