April 2020 Meeting – Cancelled

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic our regular OSCC meeting for April 7th, 2020 has been cancelled.  However, we still urge members to submit photos as you normally would (same deadline). IF you are interested in a critique – include that in your file name, and I can post them on facebook for anyone to give an opinion. For those giving comments for critiquing – remember to please keep the comments constructive.

We will post a slideshow on the website.  We are looking into posting the video on Flkr as well.  The slideshow will be included into the May meeting.

Our Library exhibit may need to be altered due to the pandemic.  We’ll keep you posted as best we can.

March 2020 Meeting

We had a good turnout for last night’s meeting. Randy started with the news items, this included a reminder about the outing to the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory, the club photographic display at the library (May and June) and Bob Jones’s display at the Full Spectrum Gallery at FotoArt, Owen Sound. We had 58 images in this months assignment “Reflections”, these are on the slideshow here.  There were two portfolios, one from Randy that included as slideshow and a video, and one from Julian on “Playing with Peonies”. Finally Diane presented some ideas for next months assignment “Local Wildlife”, don’t forget to enter them by the last Tuesday of this month :-).

February 2020 Meeting

We had a good turn out for the last meeting, the weather was fortunately not too bad on the evening. There were several news items for the members

  • The club still has a exhibition in the Full Spectrum Gallery in FotoArt, Owen Sound.
  • There will be a chance to enter for the club exhibition in the Library this summer – exact dates to follow – the theme will be “Abandoned”.
  • Bill gave a preview of what we might expect on a trip to the Cambridge Butterfly conservatory – details on the Upcoming Events side bar.

We went through the 55 images entered for this months assignment, these are now on the website here. There was a good variety and it generated a good discussion on some of the images.

For the workshop section Randy covered some basic image editing pointers and some specific tips on using the FastStone editing program.

Terry Welton gave us a preview of “Vision”, a quarterly publication showcasing the work of local photographers he is looking to publish. More details at the Quik Media site.

Don’t forget to get your Reflection-noitcelfeR images in promptly for the March 3rd Meeting!

Upcoming Feb 4th Meeting

Hopefully everyone managed to get their images in for the “Shadows and Silhouettes” assignment. At the next meeting we will project the images and also look at the assignment for March “Reflections”.

We will be hearing , amongst other things, about the club exhibition at the Library during June and the proposed outing to the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory.

The practical evening will be a journey into image editing mainly using the free editing software (PC only) from FastStone, you can have a look and download it from here.

January 2020 Meeting

There was a good turn out for the first meeting of the year, and decade, despite the wintery weather. We had a member profile from Lesley Smith and a good selection of 54 Door entries for this months assignment – these are now showing under the Photos/2019-2020 Themes menu.

There will be selection of images taken with light boxes in the Full Spectrum Gallery at Fotoart during January and February.

The next club meeting is on 4th February when the assignment theme is
“Shadows and Silhouettes”.

Salt of the Earth with Willy Waterton, Nov. 13, 2018

The Owen Sound Camera Club is hosting a presentation by Willy Waterton on Tuesday, November 13. Titled Salt of the Earth:People of Bruce Grey, it will cover both his B&W and colour work over his extensive career and will delve into the making of some of his portraits which capture the character of the local folk.

Willy’s tagline reads: “photographing the land and people for over 40 years”, and after having a taste of the ‘people’ portion, you can get a taste of the ‘land’ side at the Griffin Gallery (at the Roxy Theatre) until Jan. 13, 2019. Beautifully presented landscapes and wildlife, you’ll find inspiring canvases and prints from the polar regions and closer to home.
